The day had been a trying one, to say the least. Of course Fluttershy receiving her crest was a cause for celebration, but it was difficult to do so with the battle still going on outside.

The worst thing, though, was when Floramon – Fluttershy’s supposed “true” partner – had found her. The plant monster had immediately tried pushing to get Fluttershy’s attention, something that Choco immediately noticed and rather disliked.

There hadn’t been a lot of time for him to dwell on her, though. Fluttershy had wanted – rather stubbornly – to help the Chosen who had been injured in the ongoing fight, and Choco hadn’t minded Floramon’s help making sure Fluttershy didn’t run herself ragged…well, he hadn’t minded too much anyway.

Eventually Chris and Martin managed to convince her to get more rest, and the two Digimon had tagged along when they took her back to Martin’s apartment, waiting in the common room while the two humans put Fluttershy to bed in one of the spare rooms.

That was when Floramon rounded on Choco, wearing a serious expression under her petal-like helmet.

“So who was it?” she demanded.

Choco could only blink at her. “Who was…what?”

“The one who broke Fluttershy’s wing.”

Choco winced a little; while it had been too much to hope she wouldn’t notice, he’d at least thought she would decide not to bring it up.

Floramon waited, her foot tapping an impatient rhythm on the floor. “Tell me who it was, and I’ll teach him a lesson he won’t forget.”

Choco found himself vaguely wondering how she knew that a “he” broke Fluttershy’s wing. “I don’t think that’s a good idea…” he replied hesitantly.

Floramon pounded her flower-like hands into each other. “Fluttershy was hurt, and I can’t just sit back and let someone get away with that. Since you haven’t done anything about it – ”

“Hey! How do you know I haven’t?”

She ignored him. “…Then it’s up to me to fix things.”

Choco frowned. “I’m pretty sure it’s already been taken care of. Besides, I doubt Fluttershy would want that.”

Floramon scoffed. “Don’t think just because she gave you a name means you’re anything special…You can’t make decisions for her.”

“I’m not,” Choco replied, rather edgily. “But she won’t want that. I know her...because I was her partner first.”

“And look at what’s happened to her under your care,” Floramon retorted.

Choco choked on a breath, stiffening at the other Digimon’s words. But then he growled, anger rising before he could delve into the darker thoughts. “That wasn’t my fault! And at least I was there when it happened! I’ve been with her since she got here. I’ve been by her side when all sorts of bad things were happening, and I’ve been there for her, protecting her, and helping her feel better when she was sad. I’ve been here for her.” His eyes narrowed. “Where were you?”

Floramon glared at him. “Okay, you’ve been doing…all right so far,” she said, and Choco couldn’t help but notice how she avoided his question. “But now she needs her real partner. I’ll take care of her.”

Choco shook his head. “No. I don’t care if you are her “real” partner. All I care about is that she’s safe, and you can’t stop me from protecting her.”

Floramon shook her head and rolled her eyes. “Fine, whatever,” she mumbled, brushing past him. “Just don’t get in my way.

Choco watched her walk away, giving a little humph after her. He’d show her…He’ll protect Fluttershy, just as he always had.

He just hoped that Fluttershy would still want him to…
