CHARACTER NAME; Fluttershy
AGE; Not stated, possibly ranging from late-teens to early-20s
CANON; My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
CANON POINT; post the end of season 3
FAMILY TYPES; Nature Spirits, Wind Guardians, Jungle Troopers

APPEARANCE; Upon entering the digital world, Fluttershy’s appearance will change from a yellow Pegasus to a more humanoid creature; light skin, lean build, barely-average height. In this state, she wears a light-yellow sundress with short sleeves and a loose skirt that ends just above her knees, light-pink capris, and light-pink Mary-Janes. She has long, light-pink hair that reaches down to the middle of her back, with long bangs parted to one side, and cyan eyes. While she is human for the most part, however, she retains her light-yellow, feathered wings, which have grown a bit larger to accommodate for her change in size.
PERSONALITY; As her name might suggest, Fluttershy is a rather meek individual. She is very timid around others, especially those she is meeting for the first time. When Twilight Sparkle first meets her at the beginning of the series, Fluttershy can only whisper her name as she hid behind her mane. She suffers from social anxiety that makes it difficult for her to interact with others, and can get easily flustered and frightened by those unfamiliar to her. While adult dragons are a more notable fear, being in the presence of others is a big fear of hers as well.

She does, however, manage to temporarily lose this apprehension when dealing with animals. Known for her kindness and compassion, she uses her skills to care for her animal friends, nursing them back to health and communicating with them in ways other are unable to. When it comes to animals, she always enjoys making new animal friends and caring for them, even with animals that others would normally be frightened of and wouldn’t give a chance; like snakes, or a Manticore that seemed to be attacking her and her friends. She would even risk “stealing” Princess Celestia’s pet bird in order to care for it (not familiar enough with Phoenixes to know that Philomena was perfectly fine). And once she begins talking of her animal friends, it can be difficult to get her to stop, such as when she confidently introduces Rainbow Dash to a plethora of animals when Dash expresses a desire for a pet.

After spending more time with Twilight and the others, Fluttershy begins to gain a little more confidence. With the constant encouragement from her friends and trusting that they will support her, she begins learning more about herself, and to become a little more comfortable with herself. As she opens up more to them, they in turn allow her to discover those parts of herself she's never really grasped before.

This goes for all the bad as well as the good, however. In opening herself up to the others, it is shown that she does have a bit of a problem with her anger which she previously never had to deal with before when she was shyly avoiding others. When trying to befriend animals that continually ran away from her, she became unusually infuriated, to the point that she attempts to capture them in order to get them to “love” her. And after attending a motivational seminar, she became rather violent and over-assertive, to the point of reducing two of her friends to tears. The result of this event might have caused a bit of a regression in her personality, where she fears to be assertive additionally because she worries about losing her temper and acting mean again.

However, the event of the seminar did teach Fluttershy that it’s all right to stand up for herself. It’s something that she continues to try and work on, though she has an easier time of this towards her friends than with others. While she still continues to be shy around those she doesn’t know, she is learning that it can be all right to be angry with her friends sometimes, and to disagree with them in more controlled manner when necessary. She continues to learn how to control her emotions, and find a balance between being assertive and letting people walk all over her.

The best example of this is when she attempts to befriend the chaotic sprite, Discord. In order to gain his trust and friendship, she willingly allows him to make a mess of her house and life, much to the chagrin of her other friends. And even in the face of some nasty pranks, Fluttershy defended Discord’s actions in hopes that granting such freedom would sway him over. When Discord freezes Sweet Apple Acres, potentially destroying Applejack’s way of life as well as taking advantage of her and her promise, Fluttershy finally says enough and allows herself to snap (and even then, the anger she expresses towards Discord is far less than other instances previously seen).

Because while she still has some trouble standing up for herself, she is more than willing to go the extra mile for her friends. When her friends are in danger, she can manage to overcome even the scariest dragon in order to help them. She can even overcome her discomfort of social exposure in order to help a friend, putting a friend’s need before her own.

She still has a long way to go, however. Outside her circle of friends, she still seems to be quiet and soft-spoken. However, part of this could be seen as less fear as it was before, and more of a desire to not be a bother. For the most part, however, it is simply how Fluttershy is. She is naturally calm and easy-going, so even if she overcame her shyness completely, she would be perfectly content to remain in the background and not make a fuss.

All in all, while Fluttershy can be seen as rather withdrawn to those around her, she has a very big heart that cares for everyone, and is willing to do whatever she can to help whoever needs her.

FIRST PERSON; Dear_Mun post
THIRD PERSON; (This is set during the episode “Keep Calm and Flutter On”, just after Fluttershy states that she is not Discord’s friend)

Her declaration was followed by tossing the skates, her hooves stomping the ice as she threw them as hard and as far as she could manage.

It was far easier to get angry than it was to admit the truth…to admit that she had really messed this up. Princess Celestia had been wrong…she had been wrong for ever thinking that she could ever get Discord to reform. And now she had let the princess down, let her friends down…let everypony down.

How could she have been so stupid? How could she not think that he had just been using her, to ensure his freedom? Why did she think that he would ever come to trust her, to listen to her…to be her friend?

The worst part…was that she really did think that. There was that one moment when it really seemed like he wanted to be friends. She really thought…

But no. it turned out she was just fooling herself. She could have known better, should have remembered that not everypony would want to be her friend. And she couldn’t make them, couldn’t force them to be friends with her.

That’s why she had tried to give Discord some space…why she had let him be himself, hoping it would be enough. And she thought it had been…had foolishly believed that doing all that would lead him to want to be friends with her.

But he didn’t want to be friends. And somehow, that knowledge…she didn’t expect it to hurt so much. She hadn’t realized just how much…she actually wanted to be his friend too.
