Name: Fluttershy
Age: Late teens-early 20s
AU/PG/CANON/OC: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic; PG - Terminal Tokyo, My Little Jamjar

Summary:
  • As a filly, Fluttershy discovers that she's not very good at flying, and often gets teased and made fun of for it. Eventually she learns she's much more suited for the ground, as she earns her cutie mark when she realizes she can communicate with animals.

  • Fluttershy makes friends with Twilight and the others, and together they become the Elements of Harmony, with Fluttershy representing the Element of Kindness. The group of friends then learn about the magic of friendship as they engage in the typical shenanigans friends go through, such as staring down dragons and cockatrices, becoming a super model, and failing to make animal friends at the palace

  • The Elements of Harmony are needed to defeat Discord, the Lord of Chaos. Then learning about friendship continues as Fluttershy tries to control her temper and overcome her fear of performing in front of others

  • Princess Celestia then asks Fluttershy to help reform Discord. Despite everything, she manages to succeed by being his friend in time for Twilight to become an alicorn princess

  • Fluttershy is then taken to a city called Terminal Tokyo, where she and others brought there are called to be "Chosen". She is given a Digimon partner, a Lopmon she names Choco, as she experiences the Digital World, makes new friends, and even falls in love

  • A blackout covers the city in darkness, making Fluttershy so afraid that Choco Dark Digivolves. He gets killed for his troubles, but Fluttershy gets his egg so that he can come back.

  • Something called the SCOPE Virus affects some of the Chosen in the city, changing their personalities. During this time, a friend asks Fluttershy to protect his Digi-partner's egg while he battles with his sanity. He loses and becames a psychopath, hunting Fluttershy down to get the egg back. She manages to keep it safe, but only at the risk of her own life and is saved by someone who dies in her place. He gets better, though.

  • During a battle, the Chosen learn that the partners they were given are not their "true" partners. So Fluttershy gains a new partner, a Floramon she names Sprout, and has to deal with Choco and Sprout arguing over who is her better partner

  • After several mishaps in the city, the Digital World decides the Chosen are no longer needed and sends them back home. They return later though, and discover they are now able to freely move in and out of the Digital World

  • Back home, the Elements of Harmony are returned to their rightful places. But the power of the Elements still affect the group of friends, as Fluttershy learns a deeper meaning of what it means to be Kind. She also learns that she actually really likes performing on stage

  • Fluttershy is then taken to a world that is Equestria, but not her home world. It is another version of Equestria that is controlled by Calice, a corrupted version of her friend Twilight who has consumed her own world, bringing in beings from off-world and turns them into species native to those lands. Fluttershy also learns to get used to the idea that there are more than one version of herself and her friends

  • Hardship falls on the residents of Equestria that causes one of the Lunas to trap others in dreams to help ease them of their troubles. After helping Luna, Fluttershy is gifted with a piece of Luna's hope, which allows Fluttershy to use Luna's power to dreamwalk when someone else starts trapping ponies in dreams later on

  • A plan is set for two groups to venture into Calice and the world inside her. Things don't go as planned, though, as the group speaking to Calice anger her and make a hasty escape. Fluttershy aids in their escape, but is captured by the Pale Pony herself

Just based on her name, one might assume that Fluttershy is a timid individual. And they would mostly be right. Very quiet and soft-spoken, she often has a bit of difficulty interacting with others, and can be easily frightened or flustered around unfamiliar people or situations. She also has an extensive list of fears, ranging from full-grown dragons to Nightmare Night to simply being the center of attention. On the surface, it would be easy to write Fluttershy off as cowardly or weak.

But that could not be farther from the truth. In actuality, Fluttershy possesses a strength and feelings that many - sometimes even Fluttershy herself – aren’t aware of. That is because, as much as Fluttershy does not wish to bother anyone, she might suppress her own feelings in favor of someone else's, putting aside her wants and desires in order to help others. In recent times, she is beginning to learn to express herself; to say no to others when she needs to, or even to perform on stage because she discovered she actually likes doing so. And while that sometimes leads to Fluttershy losing control of herself a bit since she isn’t used to letting herself get angry or to want things, with the support and guidance of her friends she is learning how to find that balance to assert herself – her thoughts and feelings and wants – without accidentally hurting others or getting too carried away.

It is still something that Fluttershy is working on, however, as she much prefers to take care of others’ needs before her own. But that is part of Fluttershy’s greatest strength; her great compassion towards others. Known as the bearer for the Element of Kindness, Fluttershy has a big heart that deeply cares for all her friends, whether those friends are other ponies or the creatures that she tends to around her cottage. She especially has an easier time with her animal friends, and even makes friends with creatures that other ponies would normally be frightened of and wouldn’t give a chance. Her trip to the Digital World also introduced her to another type of creature; the creatures known as “humans”. And despite her initial shyness with so many unfamiliar faces, she eventually made friends with many humans, caring for them the same way she cares for all her friends. Being brought to an Equestria similar but so different than her own has also helped improved her ability to make friends; learning that many who are brought there are actually human, and knowing how difficult it can be to cope with being changed, helps her reach out to those around this different Ponyville with a continued patience and kindness.

And she is also willing to do whatever she can for her friends. Even if she has difficulty standing up for herself, she does her best to push aside or work through her fears to help her friends when they need her. It isn’t always easy, especially if she is put up to some of her greatest fears. But when her friends are in danger or in trouble, she will always be there for them in the end.

Because of this, she has done many things for the sake of her friends, ponies and animals alike: In her home world, she has worked through her fear of being in the public eye, to help the other pegasi create a tornado to bring water up to the floating city of Cloudsdale, even though she herself was not the best flier. She was even a super model for a time, because she thought it was what a friend wanted; she has faced dangerous creatures like a dragon and a cockatrice and stop them from hurting her friends; and she has gone against some powerful villains - villains who she could never take on on her own, but defeating them together with her friends. In the other Equestria, she was willing to give up a peaceful dream of being with all her friends, with everyone she cared about, in order to help rescue Princess Luna who was in trouble. In doing so, she received an item from the princess, part of Luna’s Hope, that allowed her to access the dreams of others, which she never used except to help others trapped in the Dreamscape during an event later on. She even used the power of Luna had given her to protect a group of her friends, those who had risked diving into the world inside Calice, sacrificing herself to save the others when talking to the Pale Pony ended less favorably than they had hoped. And in the Digital World, she learned how to perform basic first aid for humans and Digimon; she got to talk to and know so many strangers to make friends with them, and to help cheer them up if they were down; and she even was willing to risk her life in order to keep a promise to a friend, to protect something because he had asked her to.

That moment in the Digital World had been especially difficult for her, because even though she was prepared to sacrifice her life, the situation that caused it resulted in the death of one of her friends instead. And unfortunately, it is something that Fluttershy has never forgiven herself for, because she feels that her friend’s death was her fault. Due to being bullied and picked on when she was a filly, Fluttershy grew up with already rather low self-confidence, and is often times very hard on herself. She often doubts herself, and does not always see the potential in herself that others have seen. And if something goes wrong – if she accidentally hurts a friend, or feeling like she had gotten a friend killed for her sake – she will always blame herself, and is not able to forgive herself, even when others have forgiven her, or if it wasn’t her fault in the first place.

However, even when she cannot forgive herself, she is always willing to forgive others. Such is the case with her friend, Donnie in the Digital World who seemed to have betrayed her, who broke her wing and killed their other friend; because she knew Donnie was not in control of his actions, she had no problem forgiving him when he returned to normal, despite the horrible things he was forced to do. And like the case with Discord; when she saw he could and was willing to change, she was able to forgive him and become good friends with him, despite him once trying to take over Equestria. Even when Discord betrayed her and the others to help Tirek take over, she is able to forgive him after Tirek was defeated, because she saw how truly sorry he was. Because, like the animal friends she’s made that others might fear or dislike, Fluttershy tries hard to see the good in others – even when others might not be able to – and is always willing to give someone else a chance.

Because Fluttershy has a strong and kind heart that cares greatly for her friends, no matter what they’re like. And while Fluttershy is willing to grow, learning to speak up more and assert herself, caring for others is something that she would never want to change.

Gem Considerations: Pink Manganocalcite. The "gentle but powerful energy" fits well with Fluttershy who, despite being a pony who prefers to stay out of the spotlight, still provides necessary and important support for her friends in her own quiet way.

Pink Manganocalcite is also said to fill the heart with self-love as well as universal love, and it offers hope for the best in all things while healing past hurt with a sense of motherly love. This not only suits Fluttershy, whose compassion allows her to see the beauty in and to care about creatures who others may deem ugly or undesirable, but it also would help for her own personal growth; to allow her to heal from the hardships she has faced in the past and nurture love and appreciation for herself as she continues to nurture love and appreciation for and in others.

Power considerations:
  • Healing

  • Empathy

  • Communication with animals

The main "powers" that Fluttershy had prior to becoming a magical gem was her ability as a pegasus to fly, and her ability to communicate with animals. While losing flight will not affect her as much despite keeping her wings, as she was always more of an Earth pony with wings, the loss of being able to communicate with animals will be much harder for her, as that is just as much a part of who she is. She would gladly be able to have that ability again, even if she had no others.

While she had been learning how to use power in MLJ, she never really viewed the power as hers and was simply borrowing and using the power she had received from someone else. Gaining powers of her own would be startling for her, and at first she would be uncertain, knowing that even someone as adept at something like magic (such as her friend, Twilight) still needs to study and practice them a lot. Being given powers suddenly would have her worried about possibly messing up with them, and she would be uncertain about using them. However, if she can find a way for her powers to assist, then she will continue to learn and develop them, if slowly and cautiously.
